PeoplePC Online Launches "Spaminator" and Enhanced Web Mail

Value ISP provides members with better anti-spam & "email anywhere" benefits

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 7, 2004 - PeoplePC, a leading provider of high-quality, value-priced Internet services today announced the launch of "spaminator" and enhanced Web Mail with Virus Blocker - services that will give PeoplePC Online members less spam, greater protection and more space for email. With this announcement, PeoplePC becomes the only major value Internet service provider to offer free virus blocker and enhanced spam protection with permission-based response.

New Web Mail features include 10 megabytes of storage space and server-side virus protection - Virus Blocker - that helps prevent members from downloading Internet-borne viruses, worms and other malicious code via email messages and attachments sent to their PeoplePC Online email accounts.

While PeoplePC continues to offer email with "known spam" filtering, a new "spaminator" upgrade, accessed directly from the PeoplePC Online Web Mail interface, is now available. This feature uses filtering technology to block virtually all spam through a permission-based system that ensures members receive email only from people in their Web Mail address books. Junk email is intercepted before it reaches members' mailboxes and is placed in a special spam storage folder called "known spam." Questionable email is placed in a "suspect email" folder where members can determine if the email is legitimate. This approach, with its protective features, creates a barrier-to-entry for spammers, while offering simple entry for legitimate communications.
